Kristen Stewart is unrecognisable as Princess Diana here, in Pablo Larrain's upcoming biopic of the late 20th century icon. Larrain previously directed Jackie, the Natalie Portman-starring vehicle that depicted the days following JFK's assassination. Spencer is set over one weekend in the early nineties, centering on Diana's realization that her marriage to Prince Charles is over.

Stewart spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the film:

Spencer is a dive inside an emotional imagining of who Diana was at a pivotal turning point in her life. It is a physical assertion of the sum of her parts, which starts with her given name: Spencer. It is a harrowing effort for her to return to herself, as Diana strives to hold on to what the name Spencer means to her

Filming has already begun in Germany, but it hasn't yet been announced who will play Prince Charles or Princes William and Harry. Critics expressed concern that Brexit travel restrictions would require non-UK actors to play the roles. However, producer Paul Webster has since confirmed that will not be the case.

This film comes on the heels of The Crown's fourth season, which featured Emma Corrin as Diana.
