8. Agent Coulson
Agent Coulson brought some nice dry humour to Phase One of the MCU, and when he was killed by Loki it broke a lot of hearts. This being Marvel he didn’t stay dead for long, so now he leads the Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Joss Whedon evidently has some buyer’s remorse about the decision to resurrect him, feeling that it robs his death in The Avengers of any impact; to be fair, he’s not wrong. He was able to justify it to himself by deciding Coulson is dead within the movie universe, so he’ll never again cross paths with Iron Man or Captain America.
Thus far Marvel has stuck with this approach, and since Coulson has his own show it’s extremely unlikely he’ll get his own movie too. There’s nothing a movie could explore that the show couldn’t, and Marvel is unlikely to risk millions of dollars trying to sell a movie on Clark Gregg’s name; no offence Clark.
