9 Horror Movie Heroes Killed By Their Own Vices

3. Jemma - Host

A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors Taryn
Shudder

Remember that part in this list's intro about "immoral activities"? Well, that's where Jemma of last year's Host comes into play.

Director Rob Savage's brisk 56-minute offering was one of the first movies to embrace the restrictions that were now in place across the entertainment industry due to the pandemic we all found ourselves thrust into last year. A film presented entirely through the lens of a multi-person Zoom call, Host was the perfect picture at the perfect time - with so many of us forced to only interact with the outside world via video calls.

In Host, said Zoom call becomes the stuff of nightmares when eight friends end up dead after one of them decides it's a brilliant idea to hire a medium to carry out an online séance. Where Jemma Moore's Jemma comes into this, is that she pretends to have made spiritual contact with another friend who'd committed suicide.

All of this ends up summoning an actual demon, who then kills each member of the Zoom chat in ways that are brilliantly constructed from writers Rob Savage, Gemma Hurley and Jed Shepherd.

For Jemma, her death - and Haley's - isn't seen on-screen, yet it's implied to have taken place just as the Zoom call runs out of time. And for that, she was totally served up some payback for bullsh*tting about speaking with a dead pal.
