9 Insane Movie Team-Ups That Nearly Happened
5. The Gemini Man (aka Young Clint Vs. Old Clint)
Clint Eastwood has more or less stepped away from acting and has only taken on a handful of roles in the last decade. His action days are well and truly behind him at this point, but he almost made one last hurrah that would have pitted him against his greatest onscreen foe to date; himself.
The plot for The Gemini Man had an old government assassin being hunted down by a clone of his younger self, and when director Joe Carnahan was attached he tried to lure Clint to the idea. He put together a pretty great sizzle reel pitting old Clint against his younger self, but it sounds like Eastwood wasn’t jazzed about the idea.
There was also the problematic issue of how to portray the younger clone; hire a young actor and make him look like Clint, or use CGI. Tron: Legacy showed the technology to pull that idea off seamlessly still hasn’t arrived, and while Looper was great no amount of make-up could convince audiences Joseph Gordon-Levitt looked like Bruce Willis.
Too bad Scott Eastwood wasn’t a little older at the time since he’s a dead ringer for his old man. He doesn’t quite have the same level of charisma, though.
