9 Insane Movie Team-Ups That Nearly Happened
4. Freddy Vs. Jason Vs. Ash
Given the success Freddy Vs. Jason enjoyed it’s a surprise a sequel didn’t happen, but it wasn’t for lack of trying. The studio decided another fight between the two slashers would be a bit weak, and wanted to pair them with another horror icon. To balance things out it was determined it should be a hero this time, and Evil Dead’s Ash was chosen.
A treatment was hashed out that would tie all the characters together, and since the Necronomicon was already featured in Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday that was used as connecting glue. Ash comes looking for it and gets caught up in Freddy’s latest scheme to resurrect himself using the book and Jason. Much blood is spilt in the process.
The studio was keen on the idea, but Sam Raimi had some reservations and ultimately declined to license the Ash character, preferring to work on an Evil Dead remake instead. The sequel was scrapped entirely, with Jason getting an underrated remake in 2009 and Freddy getting a truly atrocious one in 2010.
Freddy Vs. Jason Vs. Ash eventually became a fun comic book series, which is probably where the idea really belonged in the first place.
