9 Insanely Ambitious Upcoming Movies You Won't Believe
3. MCU Taking Us To The Beginning Of The Universe With The Eternals
An immortal race of aliens created by Celestials have been sent to Earth to protect humanity from an evil threat, the Deviants.
Just when you thought it couldn't get any bigger, we go back to the beginning (of the universe!) with Marvel Studios' The Eternals.
Marvel are no strangers to stepping into a bigger sandbox - Guardians of the Galaxy pushed the boat out into space and Ant-Man shrunk down to the space in-between space - and have done their fair share in championing equality with the releases of Black Panther and Captain Marvel, respectively.
What makes their November 2020 incoming such a potential game-changer is both its cast.
Never mind the fact that Kevin Feige has somehow managed to persuade Angelina Jolie to portray Thena, the true ambition in this casting has come from the introduction of Kumail Nanjiani as Ikaris, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Salma Hayak as Ajak and Gemma Chan as Sersi. This gives The Eternals a true sense of advocating for minorities everywhere and if handled in the right way, and strengthened by a compelling story, this outing could rival Black Panther with its social impact.
Marvel could have over-stretched itself by trying to introduce so many new characters into its expanding world - we haven't even mentioned the Stark brothers (Richard Madden and Kit Harington) joining this juggernaut ensemble.
This one's going to be big.
