9. Doc Brown - Back To The Future
First, let us address that these are lovable movie characters, so the idea of pitting them as insane is likely going to instigate the defensive in all of us, I know I've argued with myself enough already. Doc Brown is the wonderful mastermind behind the time-traveling Delorean in Robert Zemeckis's classic "Back To the Future". He is a scientist who operates independently from a relatively sketchy house full of clocks by the dozens, and a lot of potentially destructive equipment. Now, we know that Brown is a harmless advocate for the fascinating world of science and technology. He has taken in Marty McFly as a protégé/assistant/someone to feed his dog, and provides McFly with a series of journeys that, in the long run, will probably make him a very wise and considerate adult. Of course, McFly could actually be a nut case suffering from some version of a dissociative disorder, not fully able to grasp life with his knowledge of the other dimensions. If anyone is really suffering from this head explosion, Doc Brown would be that guy. Oh yeah, except he sped of into an unknown time with his 19th century family, maybe never to be seen again. Just considering his position at the start of the first film, Doc is a guy who finds himself in a mall parking lot in the middle of the night being gunned down by Libyan terrorists for stolen Plutonium. Plus, he really does own a shitload of clocks.
