8. Death By Excessive Force - Angel Cop
Angel Cop is the kind of anime that gives the medium a bad name; it’s dumb, excessively violent, badly plotted and just plain offensive. Fans of Angel Cop love it for those exact reasons since it’s basically every terrible eighties action movie rolled into one.
The story focuses on a badass female cop trying to stop a terrorist group in Japan, and she mostly does this by straight up shooting creeps in the face. The anime sets this up in the opening scene, where she saves the life of her partner by shooting a terrorist who sneaks up on him.
By “shoot” I mean "demolish", as she systematically destroys the poor girl in the space of four bullets. The first one repaints the wall and the last one takes half her face away, which even sends her eyeball falling around. Thankfully the ludicrous gore prevents it from being too dark, and this intro sets the scene for the rest of the show.
