9 Movies With Way Too Many Plot Twists
7. Star Trek Into Darkness
JJ Abrams loves himself a good mystery; it’s just too bad there’s no actual mystery to the story of Star Trek Into Darkness. The first half has the Enterprise crew hunting down "John Harrison" and finding out why he bombed a base. In a twist that surprised absolutely no one, it turns out Harrison is really Khan, and he’s seeking revenge against an evil Star Fleet admiral.
The movie then becomes a fan fiction remake of Wrath Of Khan, except Kirk dies instead of Spock. If the movie actually had the guts to kill the lead character that would have at least been a bold move, but instead they use Khan’s super blood to cure him of death. There’s also some stuff about super human’s hidden inside missiles and war mongering within the Federation.
If Into Darkness had focused on the adventure side of things without resorting to twisty plotting, maybe it would have worked better. Instead, it grinds to a halt to surprise you with revelations you guessed a half hour ago.
