9 Perfectly Innocent Pop Songs Forever Ruined By Movie Violence

1. Spring Breakers (2013)

springThe song: 'Everytime' by Britney Spears It says something about the ridiculous/strangely endearing nature of this film that, when our characters sing along to the opening bars of a Britney Spears piano ballad on the soundtrack, we shrug our shoulders and simply go along with it. What truly illustrates just why this scene is so bizarre/brilliant is the fact that our characters are a sleazy, silver-toothed rapper sitting at a baby grand piano (James Franco) and his choir/harem of girls clad in bikinis and balaclavas. These girls (Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine - Selena Gomez has long since gone home) have become disillusioned with the hedonism so promised by Spring Break, and have instead developed an appetite for destruction. Having already held up a fast-food restaurant with water pistols, meeting rapper/ drug lord Alien (Franco) means that they can graduate to bigger, more dangerous toys. Soon he has them doing his bidding; raiding the homes of his rival and pistol-whipping henchmen in beautiful slow motion. This montage is accompanied by the tender tinkling of 'Everytime', a song that becomes more unnerving each time you hear it. And for that, we have Harmony Korine to thank. Like this list?
