9 Reasons DC TV Shows Are Better Than The Movies
4. Can Deliver On Spectacle
If TV has the advantage from time to tell its stories, then film certainly has the upperhand when it comes to spectacle. The budget for these movies is bigger than the TV series will get for an entire season (and then some), and theoretically they should have the best effects teams and means of really delivering on that front, whereas if CGI on a TV show looks a little wonky, it varies between forgivable and distracting.
The CW shows, for the most part, delivered surprisingly well on the spectacle front. Supergirl had the odd issue, but managed to handle its hero flying around and shooting lasers out of her eyes without too many issues. Likewise, Legends had the Waverider flying all over the place. The best example is The Flash though, which shocked everyone when it realised Gorilla Grodd on screen to great effect, and then not only repeated the trick in Season 2, but topped it with King Shark. They deserved praise for even attempting it, and it's even more impressive they pulled it off. It goes beyond just CGI though, with Arrow - especially in its first couple of years - packing a hell of a punch with its thrilling action sequences,
The same can't quite be said for the movies. The ending of Man of Steel results in big, near-endless destruction porn, Doomsday is a f**ked up Ninja Turtle in BvS, and there's an endless stream of CGI creatures flying around in Suicide Squad. Wonder Woman's No Man's Land is a stunning sequence, but the Ares battle more generic, while that was the only one to improve the colour palette of these films too. It doesn't look good nor help the story, and given the budgets they have, there isn't really much excuse for it.
