9 Ridiculous Upcoming Cinematic Universes

4. Universal's Monsters Cinematic Universe

Tom Cruise versus The Mummy sounds like a snarky joke about how creatively bankrupt Hollywood has become; if only that were true. That’s a movie that’s actually happening and it’s being directed by Robert Kurtzman, the writer of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Star Trek Into Darkness.

The Mummy will be wrapped up (sorry) for a 2017 release, and it will be the second movie in Universal’s planned reboot of their classic monsters following Dracula Untold. That movie didn’t really light the world on fire, but that hasn’t stopped the studio announcing an Invisible Man movie with Johnny Depp and a Creature From The Black Lagoon remake with Scarlett Johansson.

Reboots of The Wolf Man, Van Helsing, and Frankenstein are also in the works, and it will all lead to some kind of Avengers-style team-up. Universal could probably save themselves all this hassle and combine the characters for one epic Castlevania adaptation, but there’s not as much profit to be made from that approach.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
