9 Sci-Fi Movie Sequels That Insulted Great Characters

5. ED-209 - RoboCop 2

In 1987's RoboCop, the ED-209 system is shown to be a powerful, erratic piece of kit that had a penchant for murder. Granted, ED-209's laughable downfall being a simple set of stairs was a bizarre, if not logical, way to have RoboCop beat this rival modern-day lawman, but RoboCop 2 went even further in insulting ED-209.

With RoboCop 2 again featuring faux commercials and a newsroom setting to help establish the tone and almost satirical slant that the franchise is famed for, this sequel made a mockery of ED-209. Running a news story that this system had been green-lit to be introduced into a handful of cities, poor ED-209 clearly can't catch a break.

It's not stairs this time that's the downfall of ED-209. Instead, we saw the hulking law enforcement unit comically getting one of its legs stuck in a manhole.

Despite being somewhat of a cult figure after its trigger-happy appearance in that first RoboCop picture, ED-209 was fully presented as a total joke by the time of RoboCop 2.

For anyone hoping that maybe an appearance in RoboCop 3 could save ED-209, the robotic system was yet again portrayed to be a boneheaded A.I. - this time being hacked by a young girl to be "as loyal as a puppy".
