9 Sequels Trapped In Development Hell (That Will Never Happen)

There’s a great book to be written about Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four, which is surely the most troubled Hollywood production in recent memory. The movie was Doomed (sorry) from the start since it was rushed into production so Fox could keep the rights, and it was given to a director who wasn’t ready for the responsibility; the result was a car crash.

A combination of bad press and weak reviews (including a legendary tweet from Trank himself) led to the weak box office, and any hope for a franchise dying on the spot. Not so, according to producer Simon Kinberg, who said while promoting X-Men: Apocalypse he wants to press ahead with a sequel featuring the same cast.

He admitted the original was bad, but the sequel would return to the optimistic tone of the comic. This won't happen for a few reasons, like audiences hating the original and not wanting to see more. The cast has spoken about how the movie didn't work and they'll be keen to move on from the stink surrounding it too. Fox will probably start fresh in a few years, and maybe pair them with the X-Men or Deadpool for a soft reboot.

In the unlikely scenario of a direct sequel, one thing is clear: Josh Trank won’t be directing.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
