9 Sequels Trapped In Development Hell (That Will Never Happen)
7. Tron: Ascention
Tron: Legacy was a movie with a killer soundtrack and epic visuals, but everything else was underwhelming. Lead actor Garrett Hedlund must have been surgically drained of charisma before filming began, the story was a joke and it just felt like one big music video; a beautiful music video for sure, but an empty one.
It was supposed to launch a franchise, and while it did good numbers Disney took its time developing the next entry. A script with the working title Tron: Ascension was developed for a few years, which was supposedly bigger in scale than Legacy, before finally getting a greenlight in 2015.
Then a couple of months later Tomorrowland flopped and Disney - concerned over other recent mega-budget flops like John Carter and The Lone Ranger - decided to can it, and focus on safe bets like Star Wars.
There’s a slim hope it could get revived, but audiences are hardly chewing their nails in anticipation for the next Garrett Hedlund movie; for now, the movie is off the grid.
