9 Star Wars Spin-Offs That Should Be Next

7. Jabba

Fett Movie
Lucasfilm

The idea of a film centering on the slow-moving, slug-of-a-man, Jabba the Hutt may not initially sound like a slam dunk of an idea. But it turns out that the idea makes perfect sense to one pretty important guy; Guillermo del Toro.

Del Toro revealed that he met with Kathleen Kennedy and the Lucasfilm team to discuss the possibility of him writing/directing a future spin-off, and the pitch he went. He said,

"I would do the sort of Godfather saga that Jabba the Hutt had to go through to gain control. One, because it’s the character that looks the most like me, and I like him. I love the idea of a Hutt type of mafia, a very complex coup. I just love the character.”

Del Toro is the king of monsters, as recently cemented once again by his Oscar win for The Shape of Water. If anyone can make a compelling mafia film about the Hutts, it is absolutely del Toro. And to go along with it, there is all kinds of room for this story. As important of a location as Tatooine is throughout the series, little is known about it other than that it is the space equivalent of the wild west. Seeing Jabba rise to power and preside over it, Corleone-style, would be a real treat.
