9 Times Authors Disavowed Adaptations Of Their Work
1. Alan Moore - Literally Every One Of His Books
Alan Moore, the crazy genius uncle of the comic book industry, has disowned literally every movie bearing the name of one of his books. Whether it's From Hell, The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Watchmen, or V For Vendetta, Moore cannot stand them. Maybe it is just that Hollywood has been unable to make anything good out of his writing, or that Moore believes his works are unable to be adapted properly.
The production of The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen was hijacked by star Sean Connery and ripped to pieces, causing Moore to take a step back when dealing with Hollywood. He read the script of V For Vendetta and called it rubbish. Not surprising, as the script radically changed the core themes, the reason that Moore wrote it. Although he criticized the script, producer Joel Silver lied and claimed the author reviewed it positively.
It has gotten to the point where Moore has requested his name be removed from every one of his adaptations, and that the royalties and credit be instead given to co-creators. Then again, after how bad Constantine and The Killing Joke were, it's hard to blame him.
