9 Underrated Stephen King Movies

2. Christine

Carrie 2013
Columbia Pictures

John Carpenter has since admitted he took Christine because he was terrified that, after the financial failure of The Thing, he’d never land another job. He accepted Christine despite finding the premise silly, and instead set out to make a teen drama that just happened to have a killer car in it.

Despite being seen as one of Carpenter’s weaker efforts from his golden period, Christine holds up as a solid thriller with some nice teen performances. The director wisely focused on the relationship side, and portraying the tragic downfall of an outcast nerd who grows an unnatural bond with an old Cadillac.

Christine has one of Carpenter’s trademark horror scores, a couple of fun chase scenes (the finale is a doozy) and it even manages to make you feel sad at the end. It's a shame a collaboration between King and Carpenter didn't produce a flat out classic, but Christine is still a damn good thriller.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
