9 Upcoming Movie Reboots That Are Doomed To Fail
1. Police Academy
New Line Cinema took the rights to Police Academy into custody a while back, and as recently as last year a reboot appeared to be slowly progressing.
Comedy duo Key & Peele are producing in conjunction with Paul Maslansky, who oversaw the original, and they've been kicking a few story ideas around, apparently.
The new Police Academy is said to be more "grounded" than the original slapstick series about an unorthodox troop of fuzz cadets, and inspired by M*A*S*H.
The most horrible part of that sentence is obviously the "grounded" part, which makes it sound as though their ripping the soul out of the daft, but insanely fun originals.
What's more, the Police Academy movies were bad even in the 1980s, quite often going full circle and breaking into 'so bad they're good' territory, but nothing about their particular brand of comedy would hold up well today.
Which begs the question of why not just make something original, rather than bend an existing series out of shape until it fits in modern-day Hollywood?
