9 Wholly Inappropriate 80’s Movies That Taught Me All My Life Values

4. Licence To Drive

Licence To Drive

Let's lighten things up a little with this 80's teen classic featuring two of the 80's biggest child stars at the time, Corey Haim and Corey Feldman, aka "the two Corys." Now these two actors became lifelong friends and went on to star in many films together, but at the peak of their popularity came this little gem of a movie that although borderlines on what was inappropriate for kids, was meant for the teenage and young adult demographic and as such was not marketed as a family friendly movie.

It tells the story of Les Anderson who scores a date with the hottest girl in school on the eve of achieving independence via a licence to drive. But upon failing his driving exam, decides to steal his grandfathers Cadillac (which was left at this house for "safety" as the old man went on a trip) in order for the date to proceed. Hilarity ensues.

This film also began my lifelong love affair with Heather Graham, as because of this film became one of my first ever celebrity crushes and to this day is the epitome of all that is woman to me.

Lesson Learnt: NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT I always keep my licence on me 24/7. As quite simply life is too hard without one. And I don't mean just for driving around in your souped up muscle car cruising for chicks (although I never had one myself, I never felt my penis size was inadequate): it literally can do anything, from distinguishing you out of all the underage wannabe patrons of a pub to identifying you when you are passed out after such an evening so you can be dropped home by the cops. And if you don't have one when you apply for a loan or to rent out a property (in this country anyway), it makes life very difficult as you are then required to literally present enough information to trace your lineage as far back as the middle ages. I went for my licence the very day I could and if I ever lost it my life would simply feel....incomplete. Alternate Lesson(s): BASIC ROAD RULES. Wow, watching this film as a child was beneficial when it came to getting my learners permit. I don't actually recall the question but I remember I got stuck on one and what did I think back to? Not the book, but this film. And since if I missed one question in that section I would've had to wait another 6 weeks, I am forever indebted to this wonderful movie. And every time I go through a flooded road, I always think back to that voice in the educational video about the dangers of braking too hard whilst driving through the rain. Come to think of it, this movie actully may have saved my life on several occasions. Oh, and of course, Heather Graham.
Other Inappropriate Films That Taught Me This: Christine, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Mad Max 2 (the first film came out in the 70's),

Passions in life: Movies, Music and Wrestling....My childhood was spent growing up in the "Outback" of Australia (I'm a little bit country) and my adulthood resided within the city limits (I'm a little bit rock and roll), so you could say that I am the best (or worst) of both worlds. A 6 foot 7 ex wannabe pro wrestler (whose career was cut short due to a busted back, NOT caused by wrestling) & muso who has a precocious cat & a habit of doing the wrong thing but for the right reasons. The story of my life???? All demos, no albums ;)
