A History of Horribly Haunted Objects in Horror Films

The EVIL Lamp

They plugged it in expecting light, but what they got was fright! Amityville Horror Part 4: The Evil Escapes is by far my favorite film dealing with absurdist possession. The idea itself started as a great way to expand the Amityville franchise; have the evil presence transfer to a new home through a possessed object. Perfect! It€™s simple, how could this go bad? € by choosing a lamp, that€™s a good start. We€™re not just talking about any old lamp either. This lamp was clearly designed by the devil himself. Let€™s pretend for a moment that you€™re a demon and you€™re stuck in this stupid old house that everyone€™s afraid of. No one visits you, so you never get a chance to do all the demon things that you love doing. Now, you have the opportunity to escape. Do you choose to inhabit the lamp that looks like it wants to kill you, or do you go with something less foreboding, say, a table or a rocking chair? Ponder this question, mull if over for a bit. Personally, I probably wouldn€™t want my dubious intentions betrayed in such an obvious way. I would have just gone with a cup or a mug. It€™s simple, practical, and no one would have suspected it (we€™re starting to go full circle).

I have a keen, almost obsessive fascination with the macabre. It has lead me from a quiet life growing up in a small town to where I am now; creating horrific works about horrific things in many different mediums including films, short stories and essays. I live life by a simple motto: learn to like the dark, cause eventually, it'll come for all of us (lightening flashes and thunder claps)... but it ain't so bad.
