Adrien Brody: 5 Awesome Performances & 5 That Sucked
And 5 That Sucked...
5. Jack Driscoll - King Kong (2005)
Brody is a great fit for the time period, sure. He's just got one of those 1930s faces. But his performance as Jack Driscoll is entirely drowned out by the CGI 'majesty' of Peter Jackson's remake. It's unclear whether Brody's character is meant to be the lead - it definitely seems that way from the opening of the film, but as soon as Naomi Watts starts playing catch with the monkey, he just disappears. The audience doesn't even necessarily realise that he's gone until he comes back for the big rescue. It's unclear whether that forgettable nature is due to his phoned-in performance or just the structure of the film, but it's not a good performance by any stretch.
