Alien: Covenant - 10 Big Questions It Needs To Answer

4. What's The Significance Of 'Covenant'?

The new title €“ Alien: Covenant €“ is just as intriguing. Legally, the term €˜covenant€™ refers to a solemn agreement and in the Catholic Church, the term is used to describe The Ten Commandments (known as the Old Covenant) as well as Jesus€™ promises to both break the curse of Adam and Eve€™s original sin and to return and judge mankind at some point (known as the New Covenant). In the same way as the title Prometheus was both the name of the ship and a nod towards Greek mythology in the previous movie, Covenant is bound to have double-meaning here. What sort of solemn promise will viewers be witnessing, then? Will it be one between man and God? Perhaps, David and the crew of the Covenant spaceship will uncover an ancient agreement promised between the Engineers and mankind. Maybe mankind didn't keep their end of the bargain, shedding light on why the Engineers turned against the human race prior to the events of Prometheus.
