Alien: Covenant - 10 Big Questions It Needs To Answer

3. Why Did The Engineers Leave That Map?

In the early scenes of Prometheus, it€™s established that a series of ancient cave paintings and carvings exist on Earth, depicting large beings pointing to the sky. The formation of the planets in these images allows astronomers to identify a matching star system. The Prometheus crew are sent to investigate, and they find what Idris Elba€™s character believes to some sort of scientific research centre (where the Engineers had been attempting to create Weapons of Mass Destruction). They discover deadly black goo and a murderous Engineer, rather than the welcoming gods that they may have expected. So, what was the point of the cave paintings? If this is where they lead to, why would the Engineers leave that trail behind? Did they want mankind to find them, or did they want to lead the human race into a deadly trap? Alien: Covenant may provide answers, if the film includes more Engineers and/or details about their history.
