Alien: Covenant - 20 Easter Eggs & References You Must See

3. Paradise Lost

Paradise Lost

Before it was called Alien: Covenant, Ridley Scott's Prometheus sequel was called Alien: Paradise Lost, as a far less subtle nod to the pseudo-religious themes in the story. The title was obviously borrowed from Milton's classic epic poem, which dealt with the fall from Heaven of Satan.

As a nod back to that title - and the importance of Milton's text - David actually uses one of the most famous lines from the poem. He asks Walter whether he's rather serve in Heaven than reign in Hell, which is precisely what Lucifer chooses.

In both cases, the speaker has rejected servitude and now "rules" themselves.
