All 56 Walt Disney Animated Classics: Ranked From Worst To Best

8. Hercules (1997)

Most Disney films have one or two great songs, but there are a precious, cherished few that are brilliant all the way through and Hercules is one of those.

The animation may not be as lush or artistically captivating as the earlier films, but the script is incredibly tight, the action is some of Disney's best and the side characters tick every box. Plus, in Meg, there's an atypical Princess type who is the ultimate anti-Disney Princess and brilliant precisely because of it. And then there's Hades...

If Maleficent is the most terrifying villain in Disney history, Hades is the funniest, the most witty and the most complex. Thanks to a best ever vocal performance by James Woods, he drips with sardony, he is hilariously spiteful and scorned and he is reinvented from vengeful God to a scheming bitch with Ursula's love for manipulation.
