All The Fox Film Franchises Disney Now Owns
5. Alien
Yes, if the Fox deal gives Disney the reins to Predator, then it also gives them Alien. The sci-fi horror series launched by Ridley Scott's acclaimed 1979 original, then taken to new heights by James Cameron's equal beloved 1986 sequel Aliens, has proved one of the most enduring franchises of the past forty years, with new entries in every decade (again including the oft-maligned Alien Vs Predator films).
Of course, the current state of the Alien series is somewhat open to question. While there had been a great deal of excitement when original director Scott returned to the franchise for 2012's Prometheus, followed by 2017's Alien: Covenant, many fans and critics have been less than pleased with the somewhat odd new direction these films have taken.
The ever-ambitious 80 year old director has suggested making as many as four further sequels which take the emphasis still further away the once-pivotal Xenomorph; but after the somewhat lukewarm reaction to Prometheus and Covenant, not to mention their only modest box office success, it looks like the brakes might be slammed on those plans.
Could this mean that Disney would be interested in reviving Neill Blomkamp's proposed Aliens sequel/retcon, which promised to please fans by bringing back Ripley, Hicks and Newt? We wouldn't bet the house on it just yet, but we wouldn't rule it out either.
