In The Heights is a film adaptation of the hit Broadway play by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Quiara Alegria Hudes. The show opened in 2008, winning four Tony awards, including best score, best choreography, and best musical.
Given Miranda's track record when it comes to musicals, it's a sure bet that the film adaptation will be a solid hit with at least a few catchy tunes.
Even better, the film's director is John Chu, the man responsible for Step Up 2, Step Up 3 and the critically acclaimed Crazy Rich Asians.
The film itself centres on a latino community in New York City over the course of three days. The film's protagonist, Usnavi de la Vega, will be played by Anthony Ramos, and will also star Corey Hawkins, Leslie Grace and Stephanie Beatriz.
From the images released, and judging from the Broadway musical, In The Heights is going to be bright, colourful and joyous; definitely a much needed antidote to current circumstances. Plus, it's Lin Manuel Miranda, what could go wrong?
Definitely look into this if you're a fan of musicals. Or if you need a palette cleanser after The Conjuring.
