Alternate Versions Of Every MCU Movie We Almost Got To See

5. Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, Co-Starring Matthew McConaughey

Dark Tower Matthew McConaughey
Warner Bros.

Before Kurt Russell was cast in the role of Ego the Living Planet, the part was offered to Matthew McConaughey who, in the midst of his so-called "McConaissance", turned it down because he felt the part would've made him "feel like an amendment" to the movie.

Russell of course went on to play Ego, giving the MCU one of its most entertaining villains in the process.

Would It Have Worked?: Definitely. The part of Ego requires a handsome, deceptively charming actor in order to work properly, and McConaughey certainly qualifies as both.

His laid-back appeal and sheer coolness would've convincingly seduced Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), even if Russell's status as an 80s action hero makes him an ultimately better fit for the part.
