Alternate Versions Of Every MCU Movie We Almost Got To See

18. David Duchovny's The Incredible Hulk

Before Edward Norton won the role of Bruce Banner in 2008's The Incredible Hulk reboot-quel, The X-Files' David Duchovny was Marvel Studios' front-runner to take the part.

This followed the previous Hulk, Eric Bana, reportedly pulling out of the follow-up to his 2003 film after it bombed at the box office and the sequel was intended to go straight-to-DVD.

Ultimately, neither Duchovny nor director Louis Letterier's personal fave, Mark Ruffalo, got the part, and Edward Norton took a solid (if divisive) swing at it instead.

Would It Have Worked?: Unquestionably. Duchovny's laid-back charm could be perfectly juxtaposed against the Big Green Guy's utter lack of chill, and it goes without saying he'd knock both the serious and comedic elements out of the park.

It's hard to be too miffed considering Norton's enjoyable contribution and Mark Ruffalo's terrific succession of the role, but the prospect of Duchovny playing around in the superhero sandbox is mighty alluring.
