The Breadwinner

WINNER: The Breadwinner

Though Coco was the best-reviewed animation released last year, it's such an obvious winner - and a lot of voters clearly just pick Pixar because of their reputation - that we decided to gift the gong to another incredibly deserving recipient.

The Breadwinner, a delightfully charming - if unsettling - animated drama from Cartoon Saloon (whose previous films, The Secret of Kells and Song of the Sea, were also both nominated for Oscars) would be a fantastically left-field choice, spreading the love around rather than making Pixar's near-annual victory a mere inevitability.

Elsewhere the real Oscars snubbed The Lego Batman Movie and Captain Underpants, instead oddly springing for Ferdinand and...The Boss Baby. Gross.

RUNNERS-UP:

2. Coco

3. Loving Vincent

4. The Lego Batman Movie

5. Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie
