16. Big Nothing

The Island Ewan McGregor Scarlett Johansson

This is the kind of film made for fans of dark comedy mixed with an air of Quentin Tarantino. Directed and written by Jean-Baptiste Andrea and starring Simon Pegg, David Schwimmer, Alice Eve and Natascha McElhone in some mostly against-type comedy roles, Big Nothing is a short, quick, hilarious crime comedy which gets more and more insane and enjoyable as it goes on.

After losing his job, Charlie (Schwimmer) joins his friend Gus' (Pegg) scheme of blackmailing a porn-addicted reverend. They are joined by a former beauty queen (Eve) and during their plot everything goes horribly, hilariously wrong. There's a grisly murder, a horrifying secret, betrayal and a marriage on the rocks.

Oh, and there's plot twists galore involving serial killers, assassins and poison.

In short, Big Nothing is a very exciting and constantly entertaining thrill ride which not once fails to surprise or be unbelievably funny. Schwimmer, Pegg and Eve are all on excellent form, and you can't help but watch their antics ensue without realising just how much fun they're having being completely and utterly nuts.
