Another 80's revival, FLASH GORDON!

The recent t.v. series revival was canned after one season but Columbia think it wise to chuck money away at a big budget feature!

Now from what I've heard, the recent Flash Gordon series is a bore-fest load of crap and something that should be avoided by all. In fact most of you are already doing just that as it's been a ratings disaster for the Sci-Fi Channel and was swiftly canned after one season. But never fear, Hollywood are always just a meeting away from setting the wheels in motion for a cinematic remake. The Hollywood Reporter say that Columbia Pictures are steam-rolling out a new Flash Gordon film franchise into production with early talks having already taken place with director Breck Eisner (Sahara) and producer Neal Mortiz (I Am Legend) whom are being eyed as the two creative forces behind the new project.

Storywise, Flash was a sports player who travels to the planet Mongo with his lady love, Dale Arden, and the mad scientist Dr. Hans Zarkov. There, they discover a world ruled by Ming the Merciless and meet strange inhabitants such as the Hawkmen and the Sharkmen.
Originally beginning life as a rival comic strip to Buck Rogers - the early 80's movie starring Sam J. Jones as Flash heralded a new geek audience to the series, with memorable performances from it's supporting cast including Max Von Sydow, Timothy Dalton and Brian Blessed. Not a great movie, not even a good movie and at times hardly passable. But it was fun, especially for a kid growing up on pulp adventures. One of my childhood favourites and I'm sure yours too. And boy did that score make the film feel like the coolest thing on the planet...

No writers are yet on board to adapt. Pathetic Hollywood... who can save you now from this remake turmoil?
