Ant-Man 3: 10 Things You Need To Know About Kang The Conqueror
1. He Was The First Marvel Villain To Take Over The World
Kang may not be as well-known as comic book villains like the Green Goblin or Magneto but there is one thing that makes him stand out; he was the first person in Marvel to canonically take over the world. (Technically, Purple Man briefly ruled the world through telepathy in an earlier comic, but Kang was the first person to conquer Earth physically.)
The 16-part saga, Kang Dynasty, starts with the titular menace announcing to the UN that he vows to seize control of all governments since the world can only be saved under his rule. When the US military sees how effortlessly the warlord seizes Europe, they activate the Sentinels to stop him. Kang uses his technology to take control of the Sentinels, destroys the Avengers' ship, and abandons the heroes in space. He then unleashes a bomb on Washington DC, killing millions.
Believing there is no force capable of stopping him, the world's governments relinquished all power to Kang, making him the planet's sole ruler. (Interestingly, the issue where Kang takes over the world, Avengers Vol. 3 #49, has absolutely no dialogue.) Although he was eventually defeated, it was cool to see a supervillain actually take over the world for once.
