Antonio Banderas: 5 Awesome Performances & 5 That Sucked

3. Luis Varga - Original Sin (2001)

You could have been forgiven for losing your mind over the idea of an erotic thriller starring actors as passionate and attractive as Banderas and Angelina Jolie, but the results are far less alluring that you could ever have pictured.

The film - a period affair with major delusions of grandeur - clearly aspires to some Hitchcockian levels of intrigue, but comes across like a sketch about the dangers of not webcamming with your Internet lover before agreeing to meet up with them. Jolie plays the cuckoo who attempts to sabotage Banderas' innocent attempt to buy himself a bride via letters, and reveals a further deception to steal his riches.

Keeping track of the plot is a ridiculously complex request, and it's a terrible shame that such a potentially fruitful lead couple end up playing second fiddle to a vacuum of logic that sucks all enjoyment out of both them and the film in general.
