Aquaman: 22 Easter Eggs & References Explained

5. Topo

DC Comics

One of the movie's most surreal sights occurs in the lead-up to the original battle between Arthur and Orm, where a gigantic octopus can briefly be seen playing a set of drums.

Yep, that really happened. Nobody slipped anything in your drink.

To fans of the Aquaman comics, this will be recognisable as a unmistakble nod to Aquaman's octopus buddy Topo, and the Easter egg was even slyly confirmed by James Wan a few months ago.

He said, "That's for the hardcore fans out there, because in the comic book Topo would play all kinds of instruments. Literally, one tentacle would be playing the harp, and then another one would be playing the violin, and the other tentacle would be playing the piano...I joke that the octo-drummer should hook up with the guitar flame guy from Mad Max: Fury Road."
