Aquaman: 23 WTF Moments

18. HYDRO Cannons?!

Aquaman Undersea
Warner Bros.

The most needless sequence in this entire, daft movie sees Mera secretly smuggling Arthur into Atlantis past the huge security measures they have (it's fine, she has diplomatic immunity and Orm seems to be blinded to her very obvious subterfuge, despite apparently working out that the supposedly genius strategist Vulko is a double agent on less evidence).

For no reason anyone could possibly explain properly, she then explains the immigration policy of Atlantis to Arthur in some of the most boring dialogue ever written in a comic book movie. It ranks up there with Star Wars' prequel series' obsession with bureacracy and trade laws.

Worse though is the revelation that the city walls are guarded by Hydro Cannons, surely named because they shoot water in some sort of cool way that must be really cool because it's brought up so early on to foreshadow the escape sequence. Except, that's not what they do. They shoot plasma same as all of the other weapons underwater. So why the hell are they called HYDRO Cannons?!
