Arnold Schwarzenegger: Every Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
17. Last Action Hero (1993)
Last Action Hero was Arnold Schwarzenegger's first commercial failure in years, with its box office chances obliterated by the unprecedented success of Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park, not to mention the fact that audiences were not sure how to react to a postmodern and self-referential studio blockbuster. While it may have been a disappointment, the movie is not as bad as many people would have you believe. Sure, the script is unwieldy and overwritten, the constant meta references begin to grow tiresome after a while and Austin O'Brien's Danny Madigan is incredibly irritating, but the movie does have its moments. Frequently inventive and boasting some great gags (particularly the Stallone reference and Hamlet sequence) and action beats, Last Action Hero ultimately suffered from its own over-confidence.
I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
