Avengers 4: 11 Things It Must Avoid
8. An Excessive Run-Time
At 149 minutes in length, Infinity War is the longest film in the MCU to date, running two minutes longer than Captain America: Civil War. Considering the rumours that it clocked in at almost three hours, though, the Russos did a pretty respectable job of bringing the movie in at a manageable length.
However, with Avengers 4 being the almost impossibly epic climax to the first three phases of the MCU, could they finally go all-in and give it a super-sized, three-hour run-time?
While in theory no great movie is too long and no bad movie is short enough, Avengers 4 will open itself up to accusations of being yet another bloated, excessive superhero sequel if it shoots for a bladder-bursting run-time.
Will It Happen?: Probably not, to be honest. The fact that Infinity War did all the necessary table-setting and this is basically part two of that story means it should conceivably clock in at around the same length as its predecessor.
Of course, that's basically a shot in the dark at this point, as we have no idea quite what the Russos have up their sleeves, but given that a three-hour run-time would place a ceiling on the number of screenings per day, it does seem rather unlikely.
150-160 minutes feels like a solid ballpark guess, and when you shave off about 15 minutes for the end credits, that's pretty manageable.
