6. The Avengers Steal The Infinity Stones From The Past

The Rumour

Despite the fact that it destroys the timeline and makes all of the previous MCU movies after The Avengers in some way problematic, there's a big suggestion that Avengers 4's main plot will effectively be a heist.

According to this line of thinking, the Avengers will be heading into the past to steal the Infinity Stones from other points in the past to construct their own Gauntlet and stop Thanos. A new trailer description also follows the same thinking, with footage apparently showing one of the stones disappearing and Thanos following the Avengers into the past to thwart their efforts.

It's difficult to understand how the Avengers can steal Stones from the past when they were so instrumental in plotting out their own futures: how can the Mind Stone be stolen from the past when it was necessary to build Vision and defeat Ultron? That would also wipe Scarlet Witch from the timeline (at least as an empowered hero). The Stones have been too important simply to remove them through time travel, the consequences would be too dire.

Then again, wouldn't a drastic measure like this make sense for desperate heroes? After five years, they'll be running out of viable options and there may be a way for the Avengers to jump in time and through dimensions without compromising causality to much. Or they could just go full X-Men and ignore it all anyway...
