9. SHIELD Are Back

The Rumour

Despite the fact that SHIELD was ripped apart by the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Nick Fury was driven underground, there's a big rumour that SHIELD will be back in operation in Avengers 4.

Even in the wake of Maria Hill and Fury's death during the snap, one supposed trailer description includes a scene showing Tony Stark in a SHIELD uniform in the former Avengers facility. The suggestion here is that a new version of the organisation has grown out of the ashes and Stark is in some way heavily involved.

Response

This goes parallel with rumours coming out of the Avengers set early in 2018 that SHIELD would be back and it does also fit in with Tony Stark becoming the head of SHIELD in the comics in the wake of the Civil War event.

Earth needs its defences now more than ever, so an organisation designed to do just that makes a lot of sense.
