Avengers 4: 8 Major Plot Predictions
1. Gamora Will Be Resurrected
Out of all the characters who died before Thanos' finger snap, Zoe Saldana's Gamora is one of the most likely to return.
Loki and Heimdall are gone; those deaths set Thanos up to be the badass villain that he was, and retconning them would lessen his impact. But Gamora's resurrection would actually serve Avengers 4's story in lots of interesting ways, as well as giving Thanos a completely surprising and refreshing arc.
There are numerous ways that Gamora could be brought back, and some of them we've already touched on: swapping the Soul Stone for her life; having an old-school Avenger sacrifice themselves to bring her back; or, maybe it's revealed that Red Skull kept her alive somehow. But the way she comes back isn't really as important as why she comes back, and that's where the potential lies.
Infinity War proved that Thanos really did love Gamora, and Avengers 4 could show the character dealing with severe pangs of guilt and remorse after killing her. Maybe he spends the movie searching for a way to bring her back without undoing his finger snap, almost making Infinity War's villain the hero of its sequel.
For now, Thanos' work is done. What more can he do in Avengers 4? He's just going to be fighting the Avengers again? That's cool, but we've just had over two hours of that. Avengers 4 needs some action, absolutely, but it also needs to give him something totally different to do, and further delving into his complex relationship with his daughter would give the character and his journey a lot of emotional depth.
And it should also be noted that James Gunn - director of both Guardians movies - told USA Today that he's chatted with Saldana about a bigger role in Guardians 3. That could be misdirection, but it could also be completely true.
