Avengers 5: Predicting Which Marvel Character Will Be Next To Die

A hero has died in every Avengers movie, so who is most likely to bite the bullet in Avengers 5?

Bruce Banner Dead
Marvel Studios

Marvel Studios has killed off a major hero in every single Avengers film and, for the most part, they've been pretty good about not bringing them back shortly after (an infuriating trope in the comic books). In The Avengers, Agent Coulson was brutally murdered by Loki, and in Avengers: Age of Ultron, everyone was left shocked when Quicksilver was gunned down by Ultron.

Loki and Gamora - along with half the Marvel Cinematic Universe - met their end in Avengers: Infinity War, while the deaths of Black Widow and Iron Man in Avengers: Endgame won't be forgotten for a long time to come. Clearly, Marvel Studios likes these team-ups to have big stakes, and when Avengers 5 is finally released, another big name will almost certainly end up dying.

There's currently no word on when that movie will be released, but chances are it's something Marvel Studios is going to use Phase 4 to build do (the eventual arrival of the X-Men and Fantastic Four in the MCU is also bound to factor into this adventure). The biggest question, though, is that when Avengers 5 is finally released in cinemas, which fan-favourite is most likely to meet their maker?

These are the most likely candidates, and you may want to get your tissues handy in preparation...

10. Nick Fury

Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury has been part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since day one, and the last time he was seen was alongside the Skrulls in outer space. That sets the stage for the former S.H.I.E.L.D. Director to appear in Captain Marvel 2 before finally making his long overdue return in the next Avengers movie (he was mostly absent from both Infinity War and Endgame).

Jackson is now 71, and while he looks a good twenty years younger than that, the bigger issue here is that there aren't really that many more places for Fury's story to go at this point. That probably explains why he's taken a back seat role in proceedings these past few years, and a heroic sacrifice of some sort feels like the right move now.

Fury was the one who brought Earth's Mightiest Heroes together in the first place, so it would be appropriate for him to be the one who enacts one final plan to ensure that the team will always be there to protect the universe...even if it's at the cost of his own life.
