Avengers: Doomsday - Character Breakdown

16. Yelena Belova

Yelena Belova has so far appeared in just two MCU projects, and stole the show in both of them. She stood shoulder to shoulder with Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) in Black Widow and never for a second looked out of place, and in her limited screen time in Hawkeye on Disney+, was easily one of the best parts of an already strong series.

Florence Pugh is an outstanding talent, and brings to the character intensity, vulnerability, and that classic trademark MCU humour, though with Yelena this never feels forced or out of place. She is one of the biggest assets Marvel Studios can boast.

It's safe to assume that once again she will shine in Thunderbolts*, as a likely reluctant team member before becoming something of a reluctant team leader. There are a lot of parallels between Yelena and Natasha, and the younger sister could well play a similar role as the elder did with the original Avengers.

It may be her connection to said original Avengers through Natasha that could bring the Thunderbolts* together with the remnants of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Thor would make time for Natasha's sister, but could there be a tiny bit of room for a small cameo from Clint Barton as well? Maybe that's wishful thinking, as this connection could just as easily come through Sam and Bucky.
