Avengers: Endgame - 13 Best Callbacks To The MCU

In the weeks and months to come, there are bound to be dozens of pieces flooding the internet speaking in great detail about the parts of Endgame that made people cry the hardest and why that is. And sure, there's the big moments like Tony or Black Widow's deaths that are bound to be eliciting profound responses all over the globe. But in this writer's opinion, one of the film's most affecting moments is also one of it's smallest and contains one of its subtlest callback.

After Tony's funeral, Happy Hogan sits on the front porch with Tony and Pepper's daughter, Morgan, and asks her what she'd like to eat. She answers, "cheeseburgers". Happy gets a bit emotional, saying, "Your dad liked cheeseburgers. I'll get you all the cheeseburgers you want."

This is a recreation of the conversation in the first Iron Man, just after Tony gets back from the cave, telling Happy that he'd like a cheeseburger for his first meal back to which Happy responds, "I'll get you all the cheeseburgers you want" out of the sheer joy of having Tony back. But here, Tony isn't coming back. He's gone forever and you can see this dawn on Happy's face as the interaction plays out.

It takes on an extra meta layer of emotionality considering that Happy is played by none other than Jon Favreau, the director of the very first Iron Man film and the creative force that kicked off Tony's entire arc for the franchise.
