24. Okoye

T'Challa's right-hand woman turns up early in the movie as his stand-in with what remains of the Avengers - though they remain nameless - with her usual effervescent (grumpy) charm. Crucially, she also offers a hint that we might be set to see Namor in the future of the MCU by reporting about the earthquakes off the coast of Wakanda.

Later - presumably because her duties in Wakanda limit her availability to the Avengers - she turns up again for the final battle, flanking T'Challa when he makes his grand entrance. And the hint of her joining an all-female superhero team is one of the most exciting things the film teases.

23. Doctor Strange

While it would have been nice to see more of the Sorceror Supreme in this movie, his relevance to the story is huge, considering it's him that tells Tony (wordlessly) what he has to do to defeat Thanos.

But beyond that, Strange is the key to all of the heroes returning to the battlefield to save the survivors and he saves everyone from drowning by holding back the Hudson river. He's pretty much the only character who could do that while also signalling to Tony Stark that his reality was the "one" where the Avengers won.
