18. Spider-Man

Once again, Spider-Man proved to be one of the emotional centres of Tony Stark's story, despite his limited screen-time. Turning up after the second snap to help battle Thanos, the webslinger immediately goes to his surrogate father and covers him in the kind of enthusiasm we've grown to love as an inherent part of his charm.

He then makes a good showing of himself in the final fight - particularly when volunteering to take the Gauntlet and using his Instant Kill mode properly for the first time - before mirroring his own death scene in Endgame by watching Tony Stark's final moments. Thanks Marvel for ripping our hearts out anew.

17. Falcon

It's perhaps testament to Marvel's commitment to shocks that few would have expected Sam Wilson to finish Endgame as the newly appointed second generation Captain America. Then again, it might also be because there may have been some deficiencies in how his story has been told up to Endgame...

Regardless, he's a good candidate for a new, different Cap (who we'll see in the Disney+ show opposite Bucky) and it'll hopefully represent an opportunity for Sam to grow. He does get good moments away from that though, with his "on your left" callback making every hair on every neck stand up and his double-winged stab on Cull Obsidian is just brilliant.
