3. Rocket Is Influenced By Frankenstein's Monster

Following on from Coogler's comment about everything being borrowed from something else, Jon Favreau then asks the assembled group if there are any particular cultural touchstones which inspire their work. James Gunn immediately chimes in with a revealing answer:

"For me, Rocket is Frankenstein's monster...He is this little creature that was this innocent animal who was turned into something that ins't what he is supposed to be, and is completely alone and completely lost, and has no connection, has no tenderness from anyone. To me that was the seed from which the entire story grew."

Considering how easy it is to think of Rocket as an adorable, hilarious sidekick, it's always nice to have a reminder of the greater complexity and darkness to his character lurking not-so-far beneath the surface.
