Avengers: Infinity War - 10 Tricks Marvel Pulled On The Fans
1. Leading Fans To Believe The Old Guard Dies
Everyone knew there would be casualties in Infinity War and much of the speculation in the run-up to the film revolved around who might snuff it. Marvel only added fuel to the fires with the movie's trailers, depicting many of the main characters in jeopardy.
There were strong hints that Iron Man, Captain America and Thor would be among those to meet their maker. That scene where Tony Stark goes down under a mean right hook from Thanos is glimpsed, along with the shot of the Mad Titan using Thor's head as a stress toy and the scene where he faces Cap in Wakanda.
The way these images are set against dramatic music and the Mad Titan's ominous voiceover seems to be a deliberate attempt to convince the fans that the Marvel Cinematic Universe's old guard would find themselves under serious threat, and you'd be forgiven for thinking at least one of those three was going to die.
It's ironic that, in most cases, some of the characters the trailers showed in the stickiest situations were among the few to make it to the end credits in one piece.
