Avengers: Infinity War - 10 Tricks Marvel Pulled On The Fans

2. Subtly Recasting The Red Skull

Fans had given up hope of ever seeing the Red Skull again in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, partly because Hugo Weaving - who played the character in Captain America: The First Avenger - seemed to be dead against reprising the role.

So, when the crimson-faced villain showed up on the planet Vormir in Avengers: Infinity War, jaws hit the floor, but the surprises didn't stop there. Few cinemagoers will have picked up on the fact this wasn't Weaving as Steve Rogers's mortal enemy.

Marvel did everything in its power to make this look like the same version of the Nazi bad guy from Captain America. The main way it did this was by casting Walking Dead actor Ross Marquand, a man known for doing uncanny impersonations of other celebrities, when he isn't fleeing from the undead or battling the Saviors.

Since the role calls for the actor's face to be buried beneath prosthetics, most fans won't have realised it was Marquand under there until they Googled it afterwards.
